Lazaros is interested in the systems, theories and methodologies which humanity has created to explain the unknowable. His research and participation in differing intellectual and spiritual traditions (such as archeology, organized religion, cults, folklore, and witchcraft) have led to works that embody, perpetuate and mirror back our own belief systems.
At Redling Fine Art we will present a new series of pareidolic burl sculptures. Pareidolia is a precognitive psychological phenomenon wherein the mind perceives the familiar pattern of a face where none exists. It is a byproduct of our fight-or-flight response and also why we see Elvis in the pancake batter. With only slight interventions, these naturally occurring wood grain deformities read as figurative sculpture, allowing the works to function as both a display of natural phenomena and a demonstration of our own cognitive processes.
